The buzz reverberated through the school corridors as the students got busy gearing up for the spelling bee contest-“SPELLBOUND”. It had been scheduled on the 08th of September to mark the International Day for Literacy. Prior to the contest, the students from grades 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 were given grade level spelling lists to memorize , and were expected to even know some of the content words as well. The crescendo reached a feverish pitch as the students appeared for the elimination round in the form of a written test. This was followed by a mock session, to apprise the students of the various rounds which were designed for the contest. Excited and enthusiastic the students learned how to work cooperatively and were all ready for the “the” day!
Confident and smartly dressed, the students of the PYP and IGCSE took their places. In the presence of the PYP Principal, Ms. Rama Shinde we began the contest with an introductory speech on Literacy Day by Ms. Priya D’souza. This was followed by the announcing of the rules of the game by Ms. Madhuparna Bhattacharyya. The 5 rounds for each of the groups were declared by Ms. Shreya Ghosh and thus began the contest. The participants contributed towards scoring as many points for their respective houses, earning full points and bonus points as applicable. After having a total of 10 rounds and combining the scores of both the groups, the cream of the crop proved to be Jal House as they emerged winners of the contest, closely followed by Prithvi House as the runners up! A well spent morning for the participants and the audience as well!!!
